So did I mention that in all that exciting weather Off Shore we lost our new propane bottle for the BBQ.... Ya I guess you live and learn.. So if your off the coast and you see a fiberglass bottle floating about please enjoy it. So to continue we made it into South Port NC just as we got in to the bay out of way we anchored.. This was DEC 31, about 2 pm when we finally were anchored and way over tired. We climbed into bed and never got up until 9 am Jan 1, 2014. VERY Quiet way to bring in the New Year. Then stayed at South Harbor Village Marina to clean up after our off shore mess..... So the next day we went up stream on the ICW and well sat on a sand shoal and had to wait for the tide to come up a bit. So we had time to have our New Years dinner. The tide came up and we floated off. Because of the low tide and timing we were late making it to the next marina, now going down parts of the ICW in the dark is not so good, not with a big boat, deep draft and if your not familiar with it. So we are coming up to a inlet, on a bend and there is shoaling and blinking markers in 4 different directions, so it is very hard to determine depth. And to follow the electronics you think would be the safest thing to do........ NOT.... So we are a little stuck , it pulls off then Bruce is going according to the GPS. And I go out front to get a better look, and he is headed straight for land.. ya like 20 feet or so. I tell him hes going the wrong way, well now married people will understand this conversation. He replies " No Im not Im right on course in the middle of the channel." So I tell him " NO your not and if you keep going your going to hit the shore". He says" I dont care what you think you see the GPS says Im in the right spot". SOOOOO He stops comes out on top sees the shore and with a bit of urgency try to get our barrings becuse a huge casino ship is coming our way and wants to turn right were we are stuck. SO with flashlight navigation at this point we get out of that spot and make it up the ICW to a very nice Marina, Cricket Cove. AHHHH at the end of some of these days its like aaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhh....
We stayed at Cricket Cove 2 days and Bruce put the AIS on... that way all big ships can see us and we can see them from miles away. We attempted to get the radar on as well but, it didn't have the right bracket mount for our mast, so back in the box it went.
So the best thing about stopping at these Marinas is the people you meet. This is where we first saw KWHWAZI - a couple from England that has been crusing around the world for the last 5 years. And as you gt to share stories you learn quickly that shit happens to everyone! So we are not the only cursed ones out there. As we were hailing them on the radio as we are going by them, all of a sudden they are going starboard hard and going to hit shore.... urch.. They did... Come to find out as Bill was reaching for the mic he fell down below and the boat ran on shore... Everyone and the boat pulled off ok... looking back now it is funny as hell.
These last few days were rainy, foggy... not the greatest.
Then there are somedays that are quiet enjoyable.
